We stock and install Ghost Controls-compatible welding and fabrication parts for Fort Lauderdale gates, with most bracket welds, hinge reinforcements, and mounting plate fabrications running $180 to $420 installed depending on the gate’s weight and how much of the existing steel has fatigued. If your Ghost Controls gate arm is pulling away from the post, the hinge bracket is cracking, or a weld has sheared clean through, we can usually get a technician out the same day you call. Most owners discover the problem the hard way: the gate starts sagging on the hinge side, the operator groans against a misaligned mount, or a bracket lets go entirely and the gate swings free.
Portcullis Gate Repair Fort Lauderdale is an independent service provider and not affiliated with Ghost Controls, so we’re free to tell you exactly which parts hold up in South Florida salt air and which ones don’t.
Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To
Ghost Controls sells its swing and slide gate operators in a few distinct series, and the welding and fabrication needs differ between them. The AXDP and AXD series dual-gate kits use a heavier mounting bracket than the single-arm TSS1 and R series, and we routinely see the lighter brackets crack at the bolt slots on gates over 300 pounds. Ghost Controls mounting plates are generally 3/16-inch steel, which is adequate for a 12-foot tube gate, but Fort Lauderdale’s combination of humidity, salt air, and afternoon thunderstorms means bare or lightly coated brackets start showing rust bloom within 18 to 24 months.
Here’s what matters when matching a part. Look at the motor housing for the model sticker: AXDP, AXD, TSS1, R20, or similar will be printed there. Then check the bracket itself. If you see Ghost Controls part numbers starting with “AX” or “RP” stamped into the steel, that’s OEM. For most repairs we recommend either OEM or a heavier aftermarket bracket in 1/4-inch stainless or hot-dipped galvanized steel, because the Fort Lauderdale environment eats the factory finish faster than Ghost Controls’ own rust warranty assumes. A welded-in reinforcement gusset at the bolt slots, done properly, buys more service life than a second OEM bracket that will fail the same way.
We also stock compatible welding and fabrication parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and DoorKing operators for when a property has mixed equipment or the Ghost Controls arm is being replaced entirely.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags toward the hinge post. This is almost always a hinge bracket pulling away from the post or the post itself cracking at the weld. The operator keeps working, but it’s fighting an increasingly crooked gate, which wears the armature and the limit switches.
- You see fresh rust streaking down the bracket or post. In Fort Lauderdale, rust streaks mean the steel is losing material underneath the coating. By the time streaks are visible from the street, the bracket is typically 30 to 40 percent compromised.
- The gate arm clunks or pops at the end of its travel. That clunk is usually a loose or partially sheared mount bolt, or a weld that has cracked but not separated. The arm is still driving, but the connection point is flexing against the break.
- The gate swings past its normal stop point. A broken or stretched weld at the mounting plate changes the arm’s geometry, so the limit settings that used to stop the gate at the post are now off by several inches.
- You can move the operator arm by hand with the gate at rest. The arm should feel rigid. If there’s play, the bracket or its anchor bolts have loosened, and every cycle is hammering the welds further open.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
In Fort Lauderdale, most Ghost Controls welding and fabrication repairs fall into three brackets. A bracket reinforcement or gusset weld with the gate left in place runs $180 to $260. A full bracket replacement with new mounting hardware and touch-up coating runs $260 to $340. If the hinge post itself is cracked or the original installer under-built the mount, cutting out the failed steel, fabricating a new mounting plate, and welding it in runs $340 to $420 plus the cost of any gate realignment.
That price includes our time to check the operator’s arm geometry after the weld, re-set the limit switches if the gate hangs differently, and cycle the gate ten to fifteen times under load to confirm the fix holds. You get the written price before we strike an arc, and the repair is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise, written on the invoice. If the weld or bracket fails inside that year, we come back and fix it at no charge.

You can safely check a few things on your own: look for visible cracks in the bracket, wiggle the operator arm with the gate at rest to check for play, and note whether the gate is sagging. That tells you the problem exists and gives us a head start on the phone.
What you should not do is attempt the weld or bracket swap yourself unless you’re a competent welder with a machine rated for 3/16-inch structural steel. A bad weld on a Ghost Controls mounting plate doesn’t just fail again; it can fail catastrophically while the gate is mid-swing, and a 300-pound gate swinging free in a Fort Lauderdale driveway is dangerous to anyone nearby, including kids and pets. High-tension and structural welds on gate equipment are genuinely dangerous to get wrong, and we recommend a trained professional for any repair that involves cutting, welding, or replacing load-bearing steel. If you’re not sure, call (754) 354-7351 and describe what you’re seeing; we’ll give you a straight answer about whether it’s a call-us job or a spray-paint-and-watch-it situation.
FAQs
On a properly installed gate, the factory brackets typically last four to six years in Fort Lauderdale’s salt air before rust or fatigue becomes a problem, and a heavy gate or a gate that was welded slightly crooked can cut that to two or three years. If you’re within the first two years and the bracket has cracked, the more common cause is an undersized weld from the original install rather than a Ghost Controls defect. Call (754) 354-7351 and we’ll tell you what the failure pattern looks like before we even send a truck.
Sometimes, if the crack is at a bolt slot or along a non-structural edge, we can grind it out, weld in a reinforcement gusset, and re-coat the area for less than the cost of a new bracket. If the crack runs through the main body of the plate or the bolt hole is wallowed out, replacement is the only honest fix. We’ll show you exactly what we found before we ask you to spend anything.
Most bracket welds and reinforcements run 90 minutes to two hours on site, which includes cycling and re-setting the operator limits when the gate hangs differently. A full mounting plate fabrication takes longer, typically three to four hours, because we’re cutting, fitting, welding, and waiting for the steel to cool between passes so we don’t warp the bracket. You’ll get a real arrival window and the price before we start.
Our Fort Lauderdale trucks routinely carry Ghost Controls-compatible brackets in the common sizes for AXDP, AXD, TSS1, and R series arms, plus 1/4-inch stainless plate stock for custom gussets and reinforcements. If your gate needs an OEM bracket we don’t have on board, we can usually have it in hand within one to two business days. Call (754) 354-7351 with your model number and we’ll confirm what’s available before we schedule.
