Get your free estimateElite Access Control Installation: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
If your Elite gate operator has stopped responding to the keypad, remote, or phone app, you’re likely looking at an access control replacement. Our techs install and program Elite-compatible access control systems throughout Fort Lauderdale, and most complete swaps run $430 – $780 parts and labor depending on whether we’re replacing just the receiver board or the keypad, intercom module, and radio receiver together. The price is written down before we unbolt anything. Here’s what most owners notice first: the gate works fine from the manual release but ignores every wireless command, or it opens for some remotes and not others, which tells us the access control board has stopped reading or storing codes reliably.
You can usually get same-day or next-day service when we have the Elite-compatible board on the truck. Call (754) 354-7351 and we’ll tell you straight what we can do today.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite has built dozens of operator lines over the years, and access control pairing is not universal across them. The boards we most commonly install cover the SL-3000, CSL-2000, and Mirage series, which are the swinging and sliding operators you see most often on Fort Lauderdale driveways in neighborhoods like Victoria Park, Rio Vista, and Coral Ridge. If your operator is an older EL series or a Mirage from before roughly 2005, the receiver board is a single-purpose unit that most aftermarket replacements won’t talk to. In that case we recommend pairing the operator with a new Elite-compatible radio receiver and keypad, which keeps the motor and arms working while upgrading the brains that went bad.
When we’re matching a part, we look at three things: the model label on the operator chassis, the board revision printed on the circuit board itself, and the voltage of the accessory terminals. That last one matters more than most people think. Elite access control boards come in 12V and 24V variants, and wiring a 12V keypad into a 24V terminal will cook it within a few months. OEM boards from Elite cost more but carry the brand’s original programming. Quality aftermarket equivalents from suppliers we trust run $90 – $180 less and often last just as long in our experience, but they don’t include the original Elite mounting brackets and antenna wire. We stock both options and quote each one separately so you can decide.
One practical Fort Lauderdale note: Elite access control components near the Intracoastal corrode faster than anything else on the gate. Salt air wicks into the keypad’s rubber membrane and attacks the board edge connectors. We open a lot of keypads in Harbor Beach and Nurmi Isles that look fine from the outside and are green inside the housing.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your Elite Access Control Installation Is Failing
- Gate opens only from the wall button or manual release. The access control receiver has stopped reading remote, keypad, or phone-app signals. The motor is fine. The board isn’t.
- Some remotes work, others don’t. The receiver’s code memory is corrupting. We see this on Elite boards older than about eight years, especially after lightning strikes nearby. The board starts losing stored remote IDs one at a time.
- Keypad beeps but the gate never opens. Either the keypad’s relay output has failed, or the operator’s accessory input stopped recognizing it. We test this with a jumper: if the gate opens, the keypad is the problem; if it doesn’t, the board is.
- Phone app or intercom shows “gate offline” during certain hours. Heat matters. South Florida afternoon temperatures above 90°F cause older Elite access control boards to expand slightly and lose connection at the antenna terminal. It cools down, comes back online, and drives the owner nuts.
- Board shows scorch marks or the access control fuse blows repeatedly. Something on the 12V or 24V side is shorting, usually a keypad key that’s stuck or a photo-eye wire that chafed through at the hinge. The access control board may still be savable, but we have to find the short first.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Fort Lauderdale, expect to pay $430 – $780 for a complete Elite access control installation on a residential gate. Here’s how that breaks down:
- Receiver board only: $180 – $320 parts, plus $90 – $140 labor
- Keypad replacement and programming: $160 – $280 installed
- Full access control package (receiver, keypad, antenna, all remotes programmed): $430 – $780 installed
- Commercial or dual-operator setups: add $150 – $300 for additional control modules and wiring runs
What moves the number: whether you want OEM Elite or a quality aftermarket board, how many remotes need programming, whether the keypad and antenna can be reused, and whether the access control wiring needs to be rerun because of corrosion or rodent damage. We give you the written price before the first bolt comes off, and that number is the number. The Kingswell Guarantee covers the entire installation for 365 days. If the new access control fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. Every Portcullis location is independently owned and operated, but bound to that same written standard.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things first without touching anything dangerous. Look at the keypad for hairline cracks in the face. Check that the operator’s power light is on and the breaker hasn’t tripped. If you have a spare remote, try a fresh battery. Those checks are free, and they occasionally solve the problem.
What we’d stop you from doing: opening the operator’s electrical enclosure, swapping the access control board with one you bought online based on a “it’s probably compatible” guess, or wiring a keypad into a terminal strip without testing voltage first. The board runs on live low voltage DC, and wiring it wrong is how a $40 keypad becomes a $400 board replacement. Elite boards especially are picky about reverse polarity. There’s no reset in the world that fixes a reversed power lead. If you’re in Fort Lauderdale and the remote isn’t working, call (754) 354-7351 and tell us what you’re seeing. We’ll tell you what it probably is and what it’ll cost to fix. The estimate is free.
FAQs
Most Elite access control components last 7 – 12 years in coastal Florida, but we see failures as early as 5 years in salt-air neighborhoods near the Intracoastal. The keypad membrane and board edge connectors are the first to corrode. If you’re past the seven-year mark and the board has failed once, it’s usually more cost-effective to replace the access control package than to repair it piecemeal. Call (754) 354-7351 and we’ll give you a straight lifespan read on your specific model.
Sometimes, but the decision depends on what failed. Burnt relay contacts, corroded terminals, or a single fried capacitor can occasionally be saved. A board that has lost its code memory or shows heat damage across the processor is done. We’ll tell you honestly which one you have, and the repair decision is always yours after you see the written price.
Most Elite access control installations in Fort Lauderdale take 60 – 90 minutes for the physical swap and programming. If the existing wiring is corroded or the antenna placement needs to change, plan up to two and a half hours. We give you a real arrival window when you book, and the technician arrives in uniform with the part ready.
We stock the most common Elite-compatible receiver boards, keypads, and antennas on our service trucks, along with parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls. If your operator uses a less common Elite board revision, we can usually have it in hand within 48 hours and schedule the install that week. Call (754) 354-7351 and we’ll check the truck before you even hang up.
