We stock and install Elite-compatible welding and fabrication parts in Fort Lauderdale, with most bracket repairs, hinge rebuilds, and gate leaf reinforcements running $220 to $480 installed, parts and labor included. That’s a real range we quote before the truck moves, and we can usually have a technician at your property the same day you call (754) 354-7351. Most Elite owners find us after the gate suddenly sags an inch on one side, or a weld at the hinge post cracks through with a sound like a rifle shot in the quiet of a Sunday morning. The gate still closes halfway, which in South Florida is the wrong half.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite gate systems in Fort Lauderdale are most commonly the Elite SL-3000 and SL-5000 slide operators, along with the Elite Mirage and Elite swing-arm setups found in a lot of Las Olas and Victoria Park driveways. The welding and fabrication needs differ by what the gate is doing. On a slide gate, the critical welds are the cantilever rollers, the drive chain brackets, and the receiver post anchor plates. On a swing gate, the failures cluster at the hinge welds, the actuator mounting plate, and the leaf frame corners where the pickets meet the top rail.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people miss: Elite’s galvanized gate frames use a heavier gauge than a lot of residential aftermarket frames, so a bracket that fits a generic 1.5-inch tube gate won’t sit flush on an Elite 1.9-inch post. We measure the actual post diameter, hinge-barrel spacing, and leaf weight before we ever cut or weld anything. For replacement parts we use OEM Elite hardware when the original part is what failed, and quality aftermarket steel only when it’s actually stronger, which on salt-air Fort Lauderdale properties usually means stainless or hot-dip galvanized plate. Dean Prescott has spent years matching the right plate thickness to the gate’s duty cycle, because a bracket that looks identical in a photo will fail in six months if it’s 10-gauge where the original was 8-gauge.

Signs Your Elite Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags toward the latch side by half an inch or more. The hinge weld or hinge barrel has started to deform under the leaf’s weight, and the gate is now levering against the top hinge every time it cycles. Left alone, it will tear the top hinge out of the post.
- A sharp crack or pop when the gate starts moving. That’s a weld failing under load, usually at a corner joint or a bracket. The sound means metal has already separated, not that it’s about to. The repair window closes fast from here.
- You can see daylight through a weld that used to be solid. The crack usually follows the original weld bead and grows along the heat-affected zone. In Fort Lauderdale humidity, the exposed steel starts rusting inside the crack immediately, which widens it faster.
- Rust streaks or flaking at the base of the hinge post. Salt air plus standing water at the post base is the classic Intracoastal problem. The post may look fine on the outside while the wall thickness below grade is gone. We’ve pulled posts in Rio Vista that were nearly paper-thin at the concrete line.
- The gate shudders or bounces midway through its travel. On a slide gate this usually means a cantilever roller bracket has shifted and the gate is riding unevenly. The worn roller then chews into the track, and the extra vibration works on every weld downstream.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For most Elite welding and fabrication work in Fort Lauderdale, you’re looking at $220 to $480 installed. A simple hinge rebuild with reinforcement plate runs $220 to $310. A full gate leaf straighten-and-reinforce job on a sagging swing gate typically lands between $330 and $480 depending on how much of the frame needs to be cut out and replaced. If we’re fabricating a new receiver post mount or re-welding cantilever brackets on a slide gate, you’re in that same $280 to $420 range.
What drives the price is steel thickness, access, and whether we need to drop the gate off its hinges or can work it in place. Every quote includes labor, materials, and cleanup of the weld slag and grinding dust. Before any work starts, you get the price in writing, and that’s the price you pay. The repair comes with the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a weld or bracket we installed fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s written on the invoice, not promised over the phone.
| Repair Type | Installed Price Range |
|---|---|
| Hinge rebuild with reinforcement plate | $220 – $310 |
| Gate leaf straighten and reinforce | $330 – $480 |
| Slide gate cantilever bracket re-weld | $280 – $420 |
| Receiver post or actuator plate fabrication | $260 – $400 |
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do two things yourself: take photos of the failed weld or bracket from three angles, and check whether the gate is still level by measuring from the top rail to the ground at both ends. That tells us a lot before we arrive. What you shouldn’t do is grab a flux-core welder and start running beads on a gate that weighs several hundred pounds. A swing gate under residual tension from a misaligned actuator can shift suddenly when a weld is cut free, and a slide gate on cantilever rollers can roll forward if the chain isn’t secured. Both can happen faster than you can react.
There’s also the question of what you’re welding to. If the post has lost wall thickness to rust, a fresh bead on thin steel buys you weeks, not years. We fix the root cause, not the visible crack. Call (754) 354-7351 and we’ll send a technician who has done this on Elite gates across Fort Lauderdale. A written price first, then the work, that’s how we do it.
FAQs
A properly fabricated weld or bracket on an Elite gate lasts 8 to 12 years in Fort Lauderdale’s salt-air climate when the steel is prepped and painted correctly. Weld failures inside three years are almost always a sign of improper galvanizing, the wrong fill material, or a repair that reinforced the symptom but not the load path.
Sometimes, but only as a temporary fix, and usually not worth it. The steel around a cracked weld has already been heat-stressed once, and welding over it creates a second heat-affected zone that’s weaker than the original. In most cases we cut the damaged section out and plate over it with fresh galvanized steel, which is why our repairs hold up. Call (754) 354-7351 and we’ll tell you honestly whether a re-weld will hold.
Most single-bracket or hinge repairs in Fort Lauderdale are done in two to four hours on site, including grinding, welding, paint touch-up, and a full cycle test. A full gate leaf reinforcement with multiple failed welds usually takes four to six hours, and we keep the gate operational at the end of the day.
We stock steel plate in multiple gauges, hinge barrels, tubing sections, and hardware for Elite SL-3000, SL-5000, and Mirage systems on every service truck. For less common Elite parts we can usually source them same-day from local Fort Lauderdale steel suppliers, or fabricate a direct replacement in our shop. We also carry parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls gates if you have more than one operator on the property.
