FAAC Welding & Fabrication: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide

We stock and install FAAC-compatible welding and fabrication for gate operators across Fort Lauderdale, with most bracket, hinge, and gate-frame weld repairs running $180 to $420 installed depending on what’s cracked, how much steel needs replacing, and whether we’re fabricating a new part on-site or mounting a factory replacement. The job usually takes 2 to 4 hours, and we carry the most common FAAC bracket and hinge stock on the truck so we can often handle it same-day. Most owners discover the problem the hard way: the gate starts dragging, the operator arm pulls loose from the post, or a hinge finally gives out after years of salt air and daily cycles.

Call (754) 354-7351

Here’s what we see in Fort Lauderdale specifically. The salt air off the Atlantic and the Intracoastal eats mild steel faster than almost anything else in the country. A welded gate frame that would last 15 years in Orlando might start showing rust bloom at the welds in 6 or 7 years here. The weld itself rarely fails first. What fails is the steel next to the weld, where the heat from the original fabrication changed the metal’s temper and the surrounding area rusted out from underneath the powder coat. That’s the failure pattern we look for on every FAAC gate we inspect in this area.

If you’ve got a FAAC operator and a gate that’s sagging, clunking, or pulling away at the hinges, call (754) 354-7351. We’ll give you a written price before any work starts.

Which FAAC Models This Applies To

This covers the full range of FAAC swing and slide gate operators common in Fort Lauderdale: the FAAC 400, 402, 412, 415, 422, S450H, S700H, S800H, and 750/760 series hydraulic and electromechanical operators. The welding and fabrication work falls into three categories regardless of your model:

  • Operator mounting brackets and base plates. These are the steel plates that bolt the FAAC actuator or motor to the concrete pad or gate post. On swing gates, the rear mounting bracket takes the full force of every open and close cycle. When the gate is out of adjustment or the wind catches a solid panel gate, that bracket flexes. Eventually it cracks at the bolt holes or the weld line.
  • Gate frame and hinge repairs. The FAAC operator pushes and pulls the gate leaf through its hinges. If a hinge weld fails or the gate frame cracks, the operator can’t move the gate smoothly, and the added resistance can destroy the operator’s internal gears or hydraulic seals over time.
  • Custom fabrication. We fabricate reinforcing plates, gussets, and replacement hinge assemblies when the original part is no longer available or the gate design needs a stronger connection than the factory bracket provides.

One compatibility gotcha we see on FAAC swing gates regularly: the S450H and S700H use a front-mount bracket with a specific bolt-hole pattern, and the aftermarket “universal” brackets sold online rarely line up without drilling. Drilling the gate post to force a universal bracket to fit weakens the post exactly where the stress concentrates, and that’s often what leads to the crack in the first place. We’d rather weld a new correct-pattern base plate than make a universal part “kind of fit.” For FAAC parts specifically, we’re honest about when an OEM bracket is worth the money and when a quality fabricated equivalent will perform just as well with a clean weld and proper paint. The deciding factor is usually how the operator’s geometry aligns after installation.

We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with FAAC, but our technicians work on FAAC operators every week. We know which parts interchange across the series and which don’t, so you’re not gambling on an online purchase that shows up wrong.

Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Here’s what we hear from Fort Lauderdale owners before we get the call, and what each symptom usually means:

  • The gate sags or scrapes the driveway on the latch side. This is almost always a hinge problem. The hinge pin and mount may be fine, but the weld attaching the hinge to the post or gate frame has cracked or the steel around it has rusted thin. The FAAC operator keeps cycling, and the sag gets worse every week.
  • The operator arm is pulling away from the post or the gate. On swing gate operators, the mounting bracket has either cracked or the bolts have wallowed out the holes. When the bracket moves under load instead of staying rigid, the gate starts and stops with a clunk. Left alone, the bracket tears free completely and the gate swings unpowered, which can damage the operator internals.
  • A visible crack in the gate frame, usually radiating from a weld or bolt hole. This is the most honest warning sign there is. Rust in the crack line, paint flaking along a straight edge, or a crack that’s opened up enough to see daylight means a full failure is close, not a question of if but when.
  • The gate shudders or stalls near the closed position. That’s often the operator fighting a hinge that’s binding or a frame that’s twisted. FAAC hydraulic operators are powerful enough to keep moving through the resistance for a while, but every cycle puts more stress on the hydraulic pump and the mounting hardware.
  • Rust bubbles or flaking paint at the welds, especially near the bottom hinge. The lowest hinge and the bottom rail sit closest to the concrete and catch sprinkler water and salt spray. Here in Fort Lauderdale, the bottom hinge weld is the first rust point on nearly every steel gate we see. The FAAC operator might still be running fine, but the structure it’s attached to is quietly failing.

If any of this sounds familiar, the fix is usually straightforward once we see it. The longer it waits, the more metal damage accumulates, and the more fabrication is required.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here are real numbers for Fort Lauderdale, not website placeholders:

  • Single hinge weld repair: $180 to $260. Includes grinding out the old weld, re-welding, and treating the area for corrosion, plus a touch-up coat to inhibit rust.
  • Gate frame crack repair with reinforcement plate: $240 to $380. We cut and grind the crack, weld it, then add a steel gusset or plate to give the area more strength than it had originally.
  • FAAC operator mounting bracket replacement or fabrication: $200 to $420 depending on the series and whether we’re installing a stock bracket or fabricating a custom base plate. Includes alignment of the operator so it isn’t fighting the gate.
  • Full hinge replacement (all hinges on one gate leaf): $350 to $600 depending on gate weight and hinge style.

What drives the range? Steel thickness, how much surface prep the rust damage requires, and whether the gate needs to come off its hinges to do the job right. In salt-exposed areas near the water, we often recommend an extra corrosion treatment step, and we’ll tell you upfront if your location makes that worth the cost. The price includes parts, labor, surface treatment, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the weld or the bracket fails within that year, we come back and fix it at no charge.

You’ll have the price in writing before a single bolt turns. That’s the Kingswell Way, and it’s the same at every independently owned Portcullis location.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground here, and then there’s the part you shouldn’t do yourself.

You can safely inspect the gate yourself. Look for visible cracks, rust bloom at the welds, loose bolts on the FAAC mounting bracket, and a gate leaf that’s dropped or twisted. Wiggle the gate by hand with the operator disengaged and see if there’s play at the hinges. That information helps us give you a better phone estimate.

The welding itself is not a weekend project for most people. A gate frame under tension from its own weight, plus a FAAC hydraulic operator pushing against it, can shift while you’re working. You need to support the gate leaf properly before cutting or grinding, and a bad weld on a gate that weighs several hundred pounds can fail suddenly and dangerously. On top of that, the operator’s electrical connections and any force adjustments mean the gate can start moving unexpectedly while you’re underneath it. We’re background-checked, uniformed technicians who do this work every day, and we still treat every gate like it’s about to move. If the weld repair isn’t done right, the gate fails again, and the operator takes damage along with it. That’s the expensive version of this repair.

We’d rather walk you through the process on the phone, give you a real price, and do it once. Call (754) 354-7351 and we’ll talk it through.
