Most Mighty Mule gate motor replacements in Fort Lauderdale run $340 to $680 installed, including the new motor or actuator, labor, and a written guarantee on the work. We stock Mighty Mule-compatible motors and actuators on our trucks, so in many cases we can complete the swap the same day we arrive. The typical way owners find us: the gate starts opening halfway, then reverses, or the arm moves but won’t push the gate leaf more than a few inches before the control board throws a fault.
That’s the moment when a once-reliable gate turns into a daily argument. You shouldn’t have to get out of the car at the end of a long day on I-95, keypad in one hand and a gate leaf that won’t budge. If the motor’s done, the motor’s done. We’ll tell you straight, price it in writing, and get it turning again.
Which Mighty Mule Models This Applies To
This page covers the motor and actuator assemblies across the Mighty Mule swing-gate lineup: the MM260, MM360, MM371W, MM372W, MM571W, MM572W, and the heavy-duty MM662 series. We also work on the sliding-gate models like the MM562 and MM662, where the “motor” is actually a gear-driven operator that sits beside the track rather than on an arm.
The key identifier is the model number on the white label on the control board or on the underside of the arm housing. On the MM371W and MM372W, the actuator arm is a 24-volt linear arm with a 14-inch stroke. On the MM662, the arm is longer and thicker because it’s pushing a heavier gate leaf. Mixing up those arms is the most common DIY mistake we see: a standard-duty arm on a heavy wrought-iron gate in Victoria Park will burn out in under a year.
For the motor itself, Mighty Mule offers OEM replacement assemblies, but there are quality aftermarket equivalents that match the voltage and stroke specs at a lower price. We stock both, and we’ll tell you which one makes sense for your gate’s weight and how many cycles a day it runs. Fort Lauderdale gates work hard, especially the ones on corner lots that get opened five or six times a day. That’s the reality that should drive the part decision.

Signs Your Mighty Mule Gate Motor Replacement Is Failing
Here’s what failing Mighty Mule motors look like in the field, and what’s actually happening inside the unit:
- Gate opens halfway and reverses. The motor’s torque sensor is tripping because the internal gears or clutch are slipping, usually from wear in the worm gear or a cracked drive bushing.
- Arm moves but the gate barely does. The actuator’s internal ball screw has stripped, or the clevis pin at the gate bracket has elongated. The motor spins, but the force isn’t transferring.
- Loud grinding or clicking from the arm. The plastic gearset inside the actuator housing is shedding teeth. This is a Fort Lauderdale specialty failure because heat accelerates plastic fatigue, and our gates sit in full sun all year.
- Control board shows a fault code repeatedly, but the gate works after a reset. The motor’s current draw is spiking as the windings degrade. It’ll keep faulting until it finally won’t start at all.
- Gate opens fine but won’t close, or closes on its own. The limit-switch assembly inside the motor housing has failed. In South Florida, a gate that won’t close is doing half its job, and around here that’s the wrong half.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a Mighty Mule swing-gate actuator replacement in Fort Lauderdale, expect $340 to $680 installed. For the heavier MM662 or a sliding-gate operator, the range shifts to $520 to $820 because the parts cost more and the motor swap takes longer. The range depends on which exact model you have, whether we’re replacing just the motor or the full arm assembly, and whether the gate’s weight demands a heavy-duty unit.
Every quote includes the part, the labor, and removal of the old motor. You get the price in writing before a single bolt is turned. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise, written on the invoice. If that motor fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. No call-back fees, no second-guessing.
One thing worth knowing: if your gate is 8 feet of solid aluminum or wrought iron and the old motor was a standard-duty MM371W, we’ll sometimes recommend stepping up to a heavier arm. That runs $60 to $120 more on the part and saves you from doing this exact replacement again in 18 months. We’d rather explain that before the work than sell you the same undersized part twice.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. What you can safely do yourself: check the control board for a flashing fault code with the cover off, confirm the breaker isn’t tripped, and look for obvious physical damage at the arm bracket. If the arm is visibly cracked or the gate leaf sags, that’s a mechanical problem, not an electrical one, and no amount of resetting will help.
What you shouldn’t do: open the actuator housing to replace internal gears, or swap the motor while the gate is under tension. Mighty Mule arms hold spring-loaded internal components and operate on 24 volts with a high current draw at startup. A wrong connection on the motor leads can fry a control board, which turns a $340 repair into an $800 board-and-motor replacement. The torque in the arm can pinch fingers hard enough to break them. This is one place where a trained hand pays for itself.
If the gate’s down, call us at (754) 354-7351. We’ll give you a real arrival window and a written quote before we touch the gate. That’s exactly what the Kingswell Guarantee promises, and we’ve been standing behind it in Fort Lauderdale since 2008.
FAQs
A standard-duty Mighty Mule actuator on a properly balanced gate in Fort Lauderdale lasts 4 to 7 years. On an unbalanced gate or one that runs more than 10 cycles a day, that drops to 2 to 4 years because our heat and humidity eat plastic internal gears faster than the dry climates these units were originally tested in.
Sometimes. If the failure is in the limit-switch assembly or a cracked housing gasket, a repair makes sense. If the internal gears or ball screw have stripped, replacement is cheaper and more reliable. We’ll show you the old part and explain the call before you pay a dollar.
Most motor or actuator swaps take 60 to 90 minutes on site. If we also need to replace the control board or reposition the gate bracket for proper alignment, plan for up to two hours. We carry the common Mighty Mule motors and arms on the truck, so there’s usually no waiting on parts.
Yes. We carry Mighty Mule-compatible actuators and motors for the MM260 through MM662 lines, plus control boards, remotes, and keypads for Mighty Mule, LiftMaster, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing. If your exact part isn’t on the truck, we’ll have it ordered and back out within days, with the price confirmed before we leave.
