Most Mighty Mule welding and fabrication work in Fort Lauderdale runs $180 to $475 installed, depending on whether we’re repairing a cracked hinge bracket or building and fitting a custom gate frame section. We stock Mighty Mule-compatible brackets, hinge plates, and gate frame components on our trucks, and we can usually complete a bracket repair or replacement the same day you call. The part most owners call about is the hinge bracket or the actuator mounting plate, and the story is almost always the same: the gate worked fine for years, then one morning it sagged, scraped, or stopped swinging true. In coastal Fort Lauderdale, the salt air does not negotiate with untreated steel, and Mighty Mule’s factory hardware sometimes loses that argument before the operator itself shows any wear.
Which Mighty Mule Models This Applies To
We do welding and fabrication work for every Mighty Mule swing-gate operator line we see in Fort Lauderdale: the MM series (MM260, MM360, MM371, MM571, MM572), the older FM series, and the newer Smart / R Series units like the R4213 and R4222. What matters more than the operator model is the gate itself. Mighty Mule operators mount to the gate post and gate frame, and those mounting points are where fabrication comes in.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most owners hit: the factory hinge brackets are stamped steel sized for the common 1-7/8″ to 2-3/8″ round gate posts. If your Fort Lauderdale gate uses square posts, a 4×4 post, or a masonry column, the factory bracket either won’t fit properly or will sit proud of the surface, which means the welds and bolts are working at a mechanical disadvantage. We fabricate custom mounting plates and post wraps for those situations. When we pull up to a job in Victoria Park or Rio Vista and see a gate that’s been shimmed three different ways, that’s usually the root cause.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: Mighty Mule’s own brackets are fine for dry climates and light gates. In Fort Lauderdale, we recommend powder-coated or stainless aftermarket hardware for anything within shouting distance of salt air, and we fabricate stainless hinge plates in-house when the original steel has turned to lace.

Signs Your Mighty Mule Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags toward the latch side by half an inch or more. This is nearly always a hinge bracket pulling away from the post or the gate frame, not a bent gate. The weld cracks first, then the bracket flexes, and the gate’s own weight does the rest.
- The operator groans or labors harder than it used to. When the mounting plate shifts even a quarter-inch, the actuator has to push at a slight angle. That extra friction burns out motors over time, and a Mighty Mule motor costs more than the bracket we could have fixed a year earlier.
- You see rust bleeding through the paint at the hinge or mounting points. In Fort Lauderdale, surface rust on a bracket is step one. Step two is structural rust inside the tube or behind the plate where you can’t see it until the gate starts to lean.
- The gate makes a metal-on-metal scrape when it swings. Sometimes it’s the wheel dragging, but just as often it’s a hinge leaf that’s shifted, meaning the gate is now riding on the edge of the bracket instead of the pin.
- You’ve already re-tightened the bolts once and they’re loose again. Bolted connections on a gate that moves hundreds of times a week need a solid, true surface. If the plate behind those bolts is flexing, no amount of tightening fixes it. The bracket itself has to be repaired or replaced.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For Fort Lauderdale Mighty Mule owners, here’s what typical welding and fabrication work runs on our trucks:
- Hinge bracket repair or replacement: $180 to $340 installed, including welding, grinding, and re-painting the affected area.
- Custom actuator mounting plate (square post, masonry column, or non-standard gate frame): $220 to $475 fabricated and installed, depending on material gauge and finish.
- Gate frame crack repair: $160 to $320, which covers cleaning the crack, welding, and adding a reinforcing plate where the original design was under-built for the gate’s weight.
What drives the range is material (powder-coated steel vs stainless), access to the work face, and whether the post itself needs repair before we can mount anything to it. Every job gets a written price before any work starts, and the repair is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If our weld or bracket fails inside a year, you don’t pay for the return visit.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do your own inspection: check whether the gate sags by measuring from the ground to the bottom rail on both ends, look for rust trails below the hinge brackets, and listen for scraping during the swing. What you shouldn’t do is weld on a gate post or frame without knowing whether the hinge pin is load-bearing, whether the gate needs to come off its mount first, or whether the post itself is compromised behind the bracket. Gates this size carry real kinetic energy when they move, and a weld that fails at the wrong moment can take the gate off its hinges and whoever’s in the path with it. If the bracket is cracked, rusted through, or pulling loose, call us at (754) 354-7351. We’ll give you a straight answer and a written price before turning a single bolt.
FAQs
Factory Mighty Mule hinge brackets typically last 4 to 7 years in Fort Lauderdale’s coastal air before rust becomes a structural issue, and less than that on ungated waterfront properties where salt spray is constant.
Powder-coated or stainless replacements we fabricate generally carry a materially longer service life. Call (754) 354-7351 and we’ll tell you honestly whether your brackets are at the end of their run.
A cracked flange on an otherwise solid bracket can often be welded and reinforced with a gusset plate, which is cheaper than full replacement. If the crack runs through the hinge barrel itself or the metal around it has thinned from rust, replacement is the correct fix.
Dean Prescott looks at the piece in person before recommending either path. Call (754) 354-7351 and we’ll give you a written quote for the repair we’d actually do.
Most hinge bracket repairs on Mighty Mule gates take 90 minutes to 2 hours from arrival to a working, swinging gate. Custom mounting plate fabrication adds time because we cut, form, and weld the plate to your post dimensions.
If we need to fabricate a custom piece for a square post or masonry column, we’ll tell you the scope and the time window in writing before work begins. Call (754) 354-7351 to schedule.
Yes, we carry common Mighty Mule-compatible hinge brackets, actuator mounting plates, and gate frame steel on our trucks in Fort Lauderdale. We also stock parts for LiftMaster, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing, but our Mighty Mule inventory is the one we replenish most often because it’s what we’re called for most in this market.
If we don’t have your exact bracket, we can usually fabricate a replacement that afternoon. Call (754) 354-7351 and we’ll tell you over the phone what we’re carrying and what time we can get to you.
